Kerosine scarcity has resurfaced in Kano and its environs, forcing consumers to resort to using coal and firewood for their daily cooking.

The situation had deteriorated in the last one week, forcing residents who could afford, to buy the product at exorbitant prices.
NAN reports that the situation was compounded by non-availability of the commodity at most filling stations in the metropolis.
Some of the retailers told NAN that for the past one week, no filling station in the metropolis sold the product.
One of the sellers at Tarauni market, Malam Mohammed Aminu, said even those with old stock had jerked up the price by about 200 per cent due to its scarcity.
A consumer, Malam Annas Abba-Dala, said a four litre gallon of kerosine now go for N1, 600 as against N800.
Even today (Sunday) I bought a gallon of the product at N1, 600 as against N800,” he said.
Another customer, Malam Garba Ahmad, said he had since switched to the use of charcoal until the situation improves.
“With this recession and the current price of Kerosine, men with large families cannot afford to buy it.
“So, people like us have to resort to the use of charcoal or firewood as an alternative though their prices has also increased slightly due to high demand," he added.
A filling station attendant on Audu Bako way said, “the owner of this filling station stopped bringing the product when a litre was sold at N230”.

Effort to contact the state Chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Bashir Dan-Malam, failed as his mobile phone was switched off.
NAN recalls that the last time Kano State experienced similar scarcity was in July 2016, when a four litre gallon of the commodity sold for N1,000 at the black market.

Sokoto Govt Disbands Hisbah Commission

Sokoto Govt Disbands Hisbah Commission

Sokoto State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mani Katami says the state government has disbanded the state Hisbah Commission due to crisis in the commission.
The commissioner made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria in Sokoto on Sunday.
Katami said that the decision was taken on Saturday during a meeting with the leadership of three factions in the commission and the officials of ministries of religious affairs and Justice.
“This action was taken as the three groups had failed to harmonise themselves into one group, for efficient and united operations.
“The state government had given them a grace of over one year to do so, but the groups had failed to harmonise, this is contrary to the Act establishing the commission.
“This had allowed unnecessary bickering, unilateral operations, while myriad of complaints were received from members of the public about alleged overzealousness and high handedness of its operatives.”
Katami directed the Chairman of the commission, Dr Adamu Kasarawa, to immediately hand over all documents and property of the commission to his office.
The commissioner said that the state government would soon constitute a proper and harmonised leadership of the commission.
Reacting, Kasarawa denied the allegations of wrong doing by the over 9,000 strong operatives of the commission.
“This action by the state government is very unfortunate, but I will hand over all items and documents with me as directed, because I am a law abiding citizen.
“It is not also true that we have been operating unilaterally, but some officials were not happy with some of our most recent operations.”
Ex- Minister chides PDP defectors, calls them ‘food is ready’ politicians

Ex- Minister chides PDP defectors, calls them ‘food is ready’ politicians

A former Aviation Minister , Chief Osita Chidoka on Sunday condemned the attitude of some members of the Peoples Democratic Party who had defected to other political parties in Anambra state .
He said their act was condemnable because their only reason for doing so was because the PDP lost the presidential election last year .
He described such people as lacking in character , principles and ideology .
He said , “ I call them ‘ food is ready ’ politicians . They lack character , they lack principles, they lack ideology . They are saboteurs . ”
The ex - minister stated this at his Obosi country home in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state while receiving Obosi PDP town ward executive members who paid him a courtesy
call .
He noted that inconsistency was the bane of solid career in politics.
He said PDP losing a presidential election was not like losing a war .
He said , “We have lost something bigger than this as Ndigbo . We lost the war and moved on . Why should we now lose a presidential election and suddenly became beggars , gallivanting from one political party to another seeking for survival . This is not the character of the Igbo, this is not our style.
“We are known for our resilience , we are known for our resourcefulness, the Igbo are focused. ”
He enjoined the PDP members in the area to remain steadfast and committed to the party as according to him “ the future is bright”.
He reminded his audience the role of a former Vice President , Dr Alex Ekwueme , in the formation of the PDP, describing Anambra state as the ancestral home of the party .
The ex - minister said “ In 2018 we shall take back the Anambra state government house . APGA is a franchise of the PDP in Anambra state ; the franchisor, the former governor of the state , Mr Peter Obi is now with us in PDP, therefore the franchise given to APGA by us has expired, so we will take over the government house that rightly belongs to us .
“In 2019 , we shall change the change (APC ) and take back the seat of power in Abuja . Nigeria will always be better under PDP .
“PDP represents free enterprise , PDP represents freedom to the people , PDP represents buoyant economy , PDP represents joy and happiness on the faces of all and sundry, irrespective of their tribe or creed . ”
Speaking , the PDP Obosi town ward chairman , Mr Victor Agbanusi thanked Chidoka for always being around to encourage them, adding that they would continie to give him their support .
